Linx Line Standard Harmonisation

The Standard Harmonisation project between TfNSW and the UGL Regional Linx Line is an important initiative in improving NSW railways.

By aligning and harmonising the technical standards across urban and regional rail networks, the project aims to improve interoperability, making it easier for trains to move between different regions without operational barriers.

With strong backing from the National Transport Commission, the project is a critical step toward a more integrated and seamless rail network across the state.

What we did

This project relies heavily on expertise and a deep knowledge of the nominated standards. The delivery team must employ their own judgement on harmonised content that draws on their experience and ensures a position that is not only accurate but also effective and aligned with the desired outcomes.

Rail Confidence is undertaking the following Scope of Work:

  1. Compares the individual requirements (TfNSW), CRN and RISSB in a detailed Gap Analysis
  2. Determine where the requirements differ between standards and propose a harmonised position
  3. Compile a risk register showing the original requirements, the proposed and agreed new requirements, and the associated risk.
  4. Consult with PAM(TfNSW), CRN and external stakeholders and compile records of engagement.
  5. Present the final rolling stock network interface standard for approval.

Specific competencies:

  • Standards Knowledge
  • Technical Advisory
  • Gap Analysis
  • Risk Assessment

The outcome

This project is ongoing; however, the end result will be a single set of rolling stock network interface standards applicable for both the MRN and CRN which defer to RISSB standards where applicable to encourage national interoperability.
