SUStAINABILITY

Our sustainability practices

The rail industry is inherently sustainable and plays a crucial role in the future development of towns and cities. Rail Confidence takes this further by ensuring that we continue to evolve our practices and advice to encourage a more sustainable industry.

  • We believe in a greener, more sustainable future for transportation.
  • We believe in integrating economic, environmental and social elements of sustainability into our culture and processes.
  • We believe we are responsible for reducing our environmental impact and encouraging our partners and suppliers to do the same.

Internal practices

ON-SITE:

  • We only use recycled toilet paper from Yarn’n, an Indigenous Australian business.
  • We make an effort to carpool to client sites and reduce our total number of trips for any given project for both equipment and people.
  • We are frequent users of Go Get Cars which allows us to car share easily.
  • We use responsible freight companies to transport equipment that use renewable energy and pre-plan their routes.

IN-OFFICE:

  • Our electricity usage is regularly monitored, and office lights are always switched off when not in use.
  • We are conscious of the waste generated in the office. Food can be separated into three bins – food waste, trash and recycling.
  • We ensure that we reuse and refill the bottle of our communal water filter.
  • We generally work digitally which requires very little printing and paper wastage.

Our culture

As people who have dedicated our careers to rolling stock and transport systems, we are passionate about taking public transport when possible.

Our office is located centrally in Surry Hills, Sydney (about 5 minutes from Central Station) and is equipped with end-of-trip facilities to encourage walking, biking and riding public transport.

Many employees choose to bring their lunch and reusable coffee cups each day to reduce packaging waste.

Future goals

  • We aim to further reduce waste by switching to more environmentally friendly products on-site and in the office.
  • We will continue to find ways to offset our carbon footprint on flights and during travel.
  • We will continue to encourage our building’s strata management to improve energy and water usage practices through solar, rainwater, and automation technologies.
