Basil is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Professional Engineer with 47 years of experience in the transport sector.
Across his career, Basil has worked on many major transport projects in bus, light rail and heavy rail, including Inland Rail, Brisbane Metro and the Sydney Olympics.
He is widely experienced in operational and fleet issues, having held a variety of technical and managerial roles. Basil retired from full-time work at the end of 2021, but is retained and is active as an Associate.

Career History
He commenced his career with Leyland Bus in the UK until 1987, and then moved to Australia, working in the bus manufacturing industry in design, engineering and management roles. He joined the NSW State Transit Authority (STA) in 1991 where he was responsible for the
procurement of new buses and the introduction of new technology, as well as Fleet Manager. Basil spent two years as Fleet Support Manager for the Olympic Roads and Transport Authority from 1999 to 2001 before joining RailCorp (later Sydney Trains), where he worked until 2013, latterly as the Project Director, Rolling Stock Major Projects, with a portfolio exceeding $1 billion.
Basil worked on several line and infrastructure upgrade
investigations as part of the Inland Rail project, Brisbane Metro vehicles, bus tender specifications, bus operating contract tender evaluations, and bus vehicle and operator audits.
Most recently he has been working on Zero Emissions buses and rail vehicle projects and Bus Rapid Transit, plus undertaking a number of INSW audits.
